Oh my, the things that have taken place since my last post. Let's catch up...

Change of Venue : )

We are now hosting the wedding in my hometown. SO EXCITING!!!

I have such a soft spot for my hometown of Valdese, North Carolina. Over 100 years ago, my family along with 8 other families fled Italy with the hope of a better life in America. When they landed there in 1893 they settled the town of Valdese and quickly built farms, mills and a church. My house in Valdese was built shortly after they arrived and at one point nearly 5 generations of my family have lived in that house. It means so much to me to have that history be apart of new life together.

Change of Career

After a wonderful ride, I left the invitation/stationery business to pursue a challenging career in retail. Though the hours and environment are a little different, I am honestly so happy to go into work each day.

Just call me Gimpy

I broke my foot. On my first day of training for my new position, I turned my ankle and fractured a small bone on the side of my right foot. (ouch!) Luckily, after only 2 weeks in a boot I can walk just fine now except that I have to wear flats for another few weeks until I regain all my strength.

"Next Bridesmaid, Please"

That is all I really have to say about that.

Live

Life is short. I have loved ones that are sick and loved ones that are gone. The best way I can think of honoring them is just to live. I have laughed, cried, danced and sang more in the last month than in a long time. I thank them for changing my perception on life.

Learning to Exhale

With all the other changes in the last few weeks, the one that I am most grateful for is the ability for me now to breathe. Be careful of the underlying need to please. This is not your friend/sister/neighbor's wedding. Be silly. Be crazy. Be different. Be yourself... and never apologize for that.

So there you have it. I am back... with much more to come.

Oh, I must tell you how happy I am at this moment...

...but I can't even put it into words. I think I just sighed the biggest sigh of relief since the wedding planning started. "Why," you may ask? Because I just hired the best wedding coordinator in the Triad for my wedding.

51 Dresses Later...

Over the last two months I have had some great experiences shopping local and really have tried to incorporate locally-owned businesses into my everyday life. Although I have had these great experiences, I have to be honest about one aspect of my wedding planning that has been lacking.

The Dress.

Today I "tried on" my 51st dress. I have been to 5 bridal shops between Clemmons, Winston Salem, Greensboro and Burlington.

I was unaware that in the Triad the prerequesite to get married is to be a size 2. In 3 of the 5 shops I visited I was lucky enough just to be able to look at the dresses on a hanger. When it came to trying them on, I was out of luck.

Now, I know some of you do not know me personally, so to give you an idea, I am not a plus size girl. I am actually a size 12, one size less than the average American lady. So, I have a question for the bridal shops in the Triad: Why do you stock 80% of your dress styles in sizes 0-8?

Some background: Most bridal shops only stock one size of each design in their store. A bridal dress runs 1-3 sizes smaller than retail sizing. Therefore if you wear a size 10, you can only try on a bridal size 12-16. Most bridal stores only stock 10% of their dresses in a size larger than 12.

I can't tell you how "amazing" it feels as a woman to go into a bridal shop and watch 19 year old brides try on every style you would like to try on, only they don't carry those "newer style" dresses in a size larger than a 6, leaving my only option as "holding the dress up in front of me" to see how it looks. Thanks!

After "imagining" how I might look in a ton of dresses, I was very excited last week after visiting a shop in Greensboro where I thought I had finally found "the dress." Although I did actually get to try the dress on, this excitement was short lived.

Because my Grandmother couldn't travel to Greensboro to see the dress, I called a store in Charlotte (closer to her) to see if they had the same style so she could see it. When I spoke to the owner of the store, turns out the EXACT same dress cost $600 less in Charlotte than in Greensboro. So, out of curiosity I called the other 4 stores in North Carolina that sell that dress (none of which are "bargain shops").... all of them were the same lower price.

So here we are. I can either just "hold dresses up to me on the hanger" and hope they look when they are ordered, or when I actually find one that I love, I get to pay $600 more than my neighbors to the South.

Today, for the first time I am extremely disappointed in our locally-owned businesses.

Rain, Rain Go Away...

With the wedding coming up in 10 months, I can honestly say that there is only one thing that terrifies me.

Rain.

Like I said I wouldn't, I have chosen to have my ceremony and reception outside. Yes, I have rented a tent. Yes, I am all over the farmer's almanac. And yes, I have a necessary but much less fabulous back-up plan.

What I am learning about myself though is tremendous.

I always thought I was a "go-with-the-flow girl." I am most comfortable in jeans and flip-flops. Whenever I can actually let my hair grow out past my shoulders, it is in a ponytail. I just have never been obsessed about some things... until now.

When Trey and I first talked about getting married, I was completely ready to pull a Carrie from Sex and the City and go to the courthouse. As we talked though, I did start to want all of my family and friends there to support us on that special day. I wanted to laugh, dance and celebrate with them. But as "the wedding" turns to "wedding planning," it just seems like so much work. Table linens, bands, china, rentals, dance floors, cakes, food, lighting, invitations, first dance songs, seating charts, aisle runners...

...and rain.

For someone who doesn't like to be controlling, the hardest thing to deal with is the uncontrollable.

If only I had been the girl who dreamed of my wedding day since I was 6. But I wasn't. Now that I am here, the options are staggering. Many people keep asking me what I want. I want my family there. I want to stand in front of my best friend and tell him just how much I am in love with him forever. That is it.

So here I am, not knowing what in the world I want, but knowing the only thing I do not want... is rain.

The Thrill is Back

Dear Triad,

I am in love. Yes, yes I am in love with my Trey, but there is a new space in my heart etched out for one of the best shops in Greensboro. Drum roll please...

Thrill of the Hunt

Thrill is right! Everyday on my way to work I pass this little white building with a zebra print door on Battleground Avenue. If you know me, then you must know that I am undeniably addicted to zebra print. So after months of passing by this store wanting to go in, I bit the bullet and I am so glad I did.

Walking into Thrill of the Hunt was like prying open the heavy top of my great-grandmother's jewelry box. With each step inside, I found treasure after treasure including antique furniture and fabulous perfume bottles and my favorite, the best selection of antique costume jewelry I have ever seen!

First the thrill, then the hunt!

An hour wasn't even long enough to examine all of the wonderful finds in this place. After walking around and surveying the inventory, I couldn't help but spend most of my time in the jewelry section. They have everything from rhinestone broaches and bracelets to beyond-fabulous chunky necklaces and huge dinner rings.

As I escaped into Antique Jewelry-Land I couldn't help but imagine some of these pieces on my bridesmaids and myself for the wedding. This rhinestone hair pin I found would be absolutely lovely among soft brunette curls. Best part? They are SO AFFORDABLE! Most of the jewelry ranges $20-$50.

I thought that my "hunting" couldn't get any better but after chatting with Carol P., the owner of Thrill of the Hunt my day got even brighter. Not only does Thrill of the Hunt carry fabulous antiques for sale, but they also RENT!

I think I just swooned. How much better can this place get? Not only do they rent out pieces and jewelry for movie sets, photoshoots and the like, but they also rent for weddings! I can't imagine anything more unique than wearing a broach that some stylish lady wore in the Jackie O era as you are walking down the isle.

So it is your turn to hunt and tell me what fabulous finds you uncover. Thrill of the Hunt is located on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro between Westridge and Pisgah Church Road. They are open Monday - Saturday from 10-6pm.

So there you have it Triad, my new love. Don't wait as long as I did to stop in because as it turns out, somethings are just timeless, and Thrill of the Hunt is the best time machine in Greensboro.

The Forecast calls for a Shower!

As my wedding day approaches, the love and support of my closest family and friends is so evident. Not only do they "check-in" to see how the planning is going, but now I am faced with a fabulous question...

"What kind of shower do you want?"

Among the bridal showers and teas, stock the bar, and a lingerie shower thrown in for fun, I began to think outside the box. Then I was hit with an idea...

The wedding planning process is wonderful, you have showers, plan parties and register for all the things you need to begin your new life. But what happens after you get back from your honeymoon?

This is why I propose a new kind of shower.

Think about it, how many times in the last year have you and your beau been treated out to dinner and a movie? When is the last time you were able to just... date? The first year of marriage, I have heard, is the hardest, so why not lessen the stress with a stash of date nights just waiting for you to take them?

Let a friend be in charge of picking out some fabulous invitations... (like the ones from Ashleigh's Fine Paper) and word them to inform your guests that it is all about treating the newlyweds to a night on the town, on you!

So close your eyes and picture the perfect wedding gown. What does it look like? Is it form fitting or does it billow out like a Cinderella ballgown? Now imagine you are feeling the fabric. Is it soft? Satin? Lace?

What is your perfect dress?

I have thought myself about this lately. With a wedding coming up next year, you would think I have plenty of time to shop around and find that one in a million look... but honestly, in the timeline of wedding fashion... I need to get started looking myself!

I stopping into Diva's in Greensboro a few weeks ago, the lovely ladies there helped me determine a timeline for dress shopping. For a wedding next May this is the schedule:

June - August (9-11 Months Out)

Look through bridal magazines and determine what styles you are drawn to. Think about your venue and time of year and make sure that your fabric choices match. Then do the fun part and try on dresses! Grab your mom or girlfriends and take an afternoon to play dress-up. Once you find the dress you love, even though you are 9 months out.... Order it. Here is why...

For a typical bridal designer, once you place the order, the dress can actually take 4-6 MONTHS to arrive. MONTHS!! So that means, when you place your order the end of August... I could possibly not come in until February.

So you are still thinking... okay, so February, I am getting married in May. I have plenty of time!

Not really.

Once the dress comes in, you have your first fitting. Lets say the dress need to be taken in because you have been religiously working out for a fabulous honeymoon body and it also needs to be hemmed.

These alterations could take 3 weeks. So you have a second fitting. Although the hem is perfect you have lost a little more weight, but only in the tummy area (Go You!), so we need to have a second alteration to make the dress fit like a dream. Guess what? Now it is the first week of April.

In the next few weeks you have scheduled your bridal portraits and for your gown to be pressed one last time before the big day.

9 Months just flew by.

As for me? I tried on my very first dresses this afternoon and found out that the styles I thought I would love weren't as flattering as I had imagined. On the other hand, those I was not interested in and tried on just for kicks... were awesome! So my best bit of advice... Just try it on. It never hurts to try something new.

The Truth Hurts.

I woke up this morning and cried. This is the not-so-pretty side of planning a wedding.

For those of you who do not know the events of the past week, I will inform you. On Friday afternoon, after three months of planning, a friend of my fiance called him to tell him that he got engaged 5 days earlier and yesterday had booked a venue for his wedding... on the same day as ours. I am assuming that this friend had no prior knowledge of our date.

Because we both knew that having a wedding on the same day would severely inconvenience our close friends, both couples agreed to look into other date options. In 10 minutes they called back to say their venue was booked from April - July and that they were absolutely not going to move their date and our friends would just have to choose.

At first, the fiery Italian in me exploded and defiantly said, "Fine! We won't change our date either!" ...But then reality set in. This is not fair for our guests. I respect mine and Trey's friends and I do not want them to be in the middle of drama that should actually be a happy time for both couples.

I finally received word back from my venue Monday afternoon. The only date even close to June 4th that is available is March 12. I mean, talk about pushing something up! That changes everything, seasons, photographers, honeymoons.

And then my business sense kicked in. So I called their venue. I spoke with a lovely lady who is actually the Events Director for the space and she proceeded to tell me the Saturday dates still available for rent:

April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, and June 18th.

Wow. That is amazing. The truth is absolutely amazing.

So here is the deal, either we keep our date and divide friends based on principle. We have been honest from the start and we booked our venue 3 months before this other couple. Or we change everything in the interest of our closest friends, putting a nail in the coffin to the phrase "Good guys always finish last."

Needless to say, I woke up this morning and cried. I am so hurt and disappointed.

Finding a Caterer

Phew. It has been a week. Memorial Day reminds me of the courageous people who stood up for our country, and this week has made me realize that marriage is all about standing up for someone; your fiance.

I took on the challenge this week to be an active groom not one who only nods in agreement. I absolutely love Christina and since food is my forte, I chose to research catering options and report my findings.

Honestly, I had no idea how hard it is to work all day, plan a wedding and then blog about how to make it local. After calling a few caterers this morning, this is what I have learned:

Lock down your date, venue and theme before searching for a caterer, this helps you and the caterer be more focused in the conversation

Choose a style of catering fits your wedding. Keep in mind budget, personal tastes and dietary needs of your guests and relatives.

Choosing a full service caterer can save you worry and money. Find a caterer who provides linens, plates, glasses and flatware.

Some caterers' websites are very straight forward with prices and menus listed. Don't be afraid to call and set up a meeting with a smaller, local caterer. Sometimes they are more able to personalize a menu to fit your event and your tastebuds.

I set up my first appointment for tomorrow with Maria's Gourmet Catering. I am excited about the meeting and taking on this challenge.

The Groom Challenge!

I am so excited for this post, I just can't stand myself. I wish you all could see the huge grin on my face.

Meet my wonderful Trey

Not only does he put up with my craziness but he absolutely brings me joy every single day and challenges me to be a better person. It is with this in mind that this week I have decided to challenge him.

Let the challenge begin!

With all that goes into planning a wedding, I have started to get a little overwhelmed. I feel like there are so many wonderful vendors in the Triad and so little time for me to visit all the ones I want to. So, for the next week, I am turning over my baby... this blog... to Trey.

The Task

Trey's task this week is to look up caterers in the Triad, call them, meet with them and then report back to you the findings! We have decided on buffet style and an approximate budget... so here goes!

Wonderful Week for Local Brides!

Last week wrapped up with an amazing set of local vendors that I am so excited to tell you about. I am going to start tonight with my very first venue.

The Secret Tearoom

What a cute place! I was walking with my beau on State Street, after meeting with the fabulous Andrea Halsey (more to come about her later...) and the cutest lunch spot caught my eye. I immediately thought, this would be the best place for a bridal shower or tea!

My experience of The Secret Tearoom began with a shirmp blt sandwich served with fresh fruit, delicous pasta salad, and double-brewed berry tea. While enjoying my lunch I couldn't help but notice the soft Frank Sinatra over the speakers and the bubble of the small waterfountain in the middle of the restaurant. It was the most beautiful, relaxing setting.

Honestly, it made me feel like a bride just sitting there, sipping my tea.

I am learning an important balance between being a "modern" bride vs. being a sweet, southern lady. If you want to get in touch with that Southern Lady side... this is the place to go.

That is why I am recommending The Secret Tearoom as a beautiful place to have your bridal shower, tea or bridesmaid's luncheon. At around $13.00 per person, you can customize your event menu and enjoy wonderful teas with your girls. Just make sure to book your party atleast 6 weeks in advance.

Changing from a Girlfriend to Fiance... and back to Me.

My advice for today is simple...

Be Yourself.

After only being engaged for a short time it is amazing to notice the changes that occurred when this girl went from being a "girlfriend" to a "fiancee." As soon as this sparkly, gorgeous rock landed on my finger, along with it came so many expectations and uses of the word "proper."

"The Perfect Bride"

Very quickly I became overwhelmed with the idea of "The Perfect Bride." We all see her. She is on the cover of The Knot, she is blond and gorgeous with super-white teeth. She carries bouquets of roses and baby's breath. Honestly, she is the vision every girl has been fawning over since they were old enough play dress-up.

I wanted so much to be that ideal. I thought it was almost my job, or responsibility to become the most like her I could possibly be. But, in the effort to become this perfect version of what a bride should be, I started loosing the most important part of myself. My identity.

Finding the "Me" in Engagement

I think back three years ago. Back to that May afternoon, when without the perfect hair style, makeup, anything perfect for that matter Trey looked past every outward expression and saw me for me. He fell in love with my personality, my humor and sincerity, not how I might look in a white gown.

You Are Fabulous.

So here is my new mission. Not only will I have a completely local wedding, but I will have a wedding that completely embodies Trey and myself, who we are for real. I hope that over these next few months, I can empower all of you readers out there to do the same in your life. You are different, you are not perfect but guess what? You are fabulous. Be yourself and let others see you for you.

Let Them Eat Cake!

So, I am as guilty as the next bride of sitting in front of the tv with Food Network on drooling over the fabulous fondant cake creations on shows like Ace of Cakes or Cake Boss... and thinking to myself... "Wow. I would LOVE a cake like that for my wedding but there couldn't possibly be a baker that talented in the Triad."

WRONG!

I am so happy to report that the "cake veil" has been lifted for Greensboro!

Cake advice for the local bride:

3-6 Months Out

Go ahead and lay the foundation of your wedding before you go cake-shopping. Details about decor, time of day, event space, dress and flowers play a large part in the overall asthetic of your wedding, and therefore cake. This is why waiting until 3-6 months til the wedding is the perfect time to have your cake consultation. Come to you consultation with elements of your style that the baker can work with and be inspired by.

Inspiration is Everywhere

Let your cake be a representation of who you and your betrothed are. Have fun with your cake and be open to the baker's ideas and suggestions. They are the expert, let them turn your thoughts into a masterpiece.

Cake Should Taste as Good as it Looks

Happy Mother's Day!

This Mother's Day was just a little different for me because, with the wedding coming up, I think about four different mothers in my life.

First and foremost, I think about my mother. I think about all the times we have spent together, the long conversations, fights when I was a rambunctious teenager, and the tears and smiles we have shared. I don't know if anyone could ever really know me like my mom does. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to know so many of her facets, from the caregiver and nurturer to the teacher and now friend.

Next, I think about grandmother. I try to imagine myself in her shoes 50 years ago, managing a home and four children. Sometimes it is hard for me just to manage my checkbook. How did she do all of that at such a young age and manage to come out on the other side with such a witty sense of humor?

Thirdly, I think of my fiance's mother. I think about how she shaped him from a baby, instilling morals and knowledge in him that would eventually be the very things I fell in love with. Showing her love for him, he learned how to be compassionate and caring, and I am so thankful to her for that.

Lastly, I think about myself as a mother. I think about how I have changed and matured over the years and wonder what I will instill in my own children someday. I try to examine my life experiences and think of how I will relate that to the growth of another human being. It is such a calming and mind-blowing thought at the same time.

This Mother's Day was such a beautiful day to reflect and at the same time, look forward and I am very excited for the years to come.

374 Days and Counting...The Dreaded Wedding Checklist

With officially 12 months until “I do” it is time to whip out the Wedding Planning Checklist. Never having been a bride before, this helpful guideline feels more like the course outline for one of my college courses… a list of a million things that it doesn’t seem possible to complete within a semester.

The first section of planning is the most intense 10-12 months out. Here are the necessities of planning during this time, and what I have or plan to do about them.

May – July (10-12 Months Out)

"We're Getting Married!"

First thing is first, announce the engagement. Well, yes! You couldn’t keep me quiet if you tried. I even started a blog about it!

Dollars and "Sense"

The budget is not the most fun part of the planning, but an absolute must. The best advice I have about this part of the process is this… Sit down with your fiancé and start by saying out loud a low idea of your wedding budget. Take turns saying higher and higher numbers out loud.

Once a number gets hard to say, go back one and you have set your budget. I was so surprised when my number and my fiance’s number were the same!

Set the Date

This decision will affect every other decision you make for the next year. Make sure the season, place, and time of day reflect you and your mate. If you love a lazy Sunday afternoon in the garden… then why not get married then?

I don’t want you to push yourself into conforming to the “Perfect Bride Syndrome” where you only consider a Saturday in June at 2:00 in the afternoon. We are unique… our weddings should show off just how unique we are!

To create our guest list, my fiancé and I sat down and write down all of the names of people we absolutely could not get married without. This was our primary list. Then we added in other friends and family acquaintances that we would like to celebrate with.

I printed off the list and gave a copy to our parents and let them help us fill in the gaps and make sure we hadn’t left off someone important. My advice, make time to sit down and do this now, because this guest count will help you pick out the location.

You are getting married where?

PHEW! Is this a toughy. I have had the hardest time finding the perfect location for our wedding even though there are some fabulous options in the Triad. What I have learned is this… First, know you and your fiancé as a couple.

Try to relate something about your personal story or style into the location. There is definitely a complete blog to come on this topic.

Lean On Me

The wedding party is made up of best friends, family and those closest to you. Don’t think you have to include someone in your bridal party just because you were in theirs. Take your time and think about how many people you want up there with you and ask them one-on-one. This is such an important experience for you both. Enjoy it.

Get Dressed!

Yay! All of your thinking about what your wedding day is going to be like is summed up in two words. The Dress. It is finally time for us brides to get our glam on! Start slow and take backup. I plan on taking a few Saturdays the next two months and going to bridal shops with my Mom and close friends to find the perfect dress.

The best advice I have heard? Look for a dress that suits the location and the time of year, a dress that accentuates the best part of your shape and pick a dress that is COMFY! You will be in the dress for at least 5 hours… Make sure it can buggy down with you!

If you are wanting to plan a local wedding, a great place to find some of the freshest, most beautiful flowers in Greensboro is The Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. My fiancé took me to the market for the first time two years ago to pick up some local produce... But they have so much more than just beans and tomatoes!

We had he chance to stop by Sunday afternoon and walk through the isles of the market lined with vibrant orange Poppies, indigo Iris and luscious red Roses.

What an experience for the senses!

Most of the garden plants and greenery are located in Building G, but tucked away at the far end of Building F, I came across the sweetest young lady, Pachia from Lee Flowers. I talked to Pachia as she was arranging a bouquet of white, petal pink and fuchsia Roses, accented with Star-gazer Lilies.

The Road to "I do"

With a busy schedule at the store and kicking of a campaign to turn the wedding industry on its heels, I arrive at Saturday feeling a bit exhausted. With everything that a modern girl has on her plate, how is it she finds the time to plan such an extensive fête?

This brings me to tonight's blog topic.

To know where one is going, he must remember where he has been.

My journey to "I do" started as a sleepy Monday nearly 4 years ago at Appalachian State. After a summer internship in Hilton Head, I came back for my senior year of college to a new major. After the first class, this young man followed me down the stairwell to introduce himself and welcome me to the Hospitality & Tourism department. For a year we were in the same class, but sat on opposite ends of the room, never speaking much more than an occasional "hi."

Weeks faded into months which turned into semesters

and before I knew it, graduation day was upon me. I enjoyed a wonderful day with my family and once they had returned home, I headed to a graduation party a classmate was holding across town. About an hour into the celebration, in walked the same young man from the stairwell. I walked up to him, fearless, and greeted him with hug. We began talking, and continued even seven hours later as the sun was waking up the world.

The days that followed

were full of sunflowers, lilies, and daisies that adorned the small vase in my living room. The days were light and full of smiles and excitement. It was nine days after graduation, with a first kiss that we knew.

"I think you are going to be my wife."
"I think I am."

Nine days.

That was three years ago. These three years have been a lifetime in a second. We have together experienced birth, death, defeat and elation. We have come through with a sense of humor and a deep respect for each other.

So when the week is long, and the planning seems daunting, you have to remember just how far you have come. Take the time in your planning to reflect on the memories that have gotten you to this point, and make some new ones.

I kicked off the afternoon with a visit to ME & E on Pembroke Road in Greensboro. Mary Ellen and Elizabeth were just so sweet... not to mention they have one of the cutest stores around!

From their line of letterpress thank you cards, to the beyond-precious baby section and modern coffee cups, this store really has a pulse on the current trends in gifts.

I grew up in a small town where I couldn’t go to the grocery store without running into at least 5 people I knew. I graduated with a semi-high rank from high school. Went to college where I changed my major, count them, three times and where I also met the man of dreams. After a few unfulfilling jobs I landed a career that many girls would kill for.

I am the manager of a new, local paper boutique in Greensboro, North Carolina. I work with two fabulous ladies, that are more like sisters than coworkers. I have, within the last 8 months designed invitations for an event sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences, worked on invitations for a Maya Angelou event in New York and helped nearly 30 brides find the absolute perfect wedding invitations.

When you spend locally, the money stays local. $68 of every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores stays in the community in the form of payroll, taxes, etc. When you shop at a nation chain, the retained value goes down to $43 and when you shop online $0 return to the community. You do the math. It pays to shop local.

Let’s throw around some numbers here.

Say the average wedding costs $20,000. Say within the great city of Greensboro there are at least 2,000 couples that plan to be married this year.

If these brides bought their goods at national chains, they would spend $40 Million, of which $17.2 Million would stay in the city of Greensboro.

If these same brides used locally owned independent stores for their dress, cake, flowers, favors, invitations,etc. $25.2 Million that would stay in the city of Greensboro!

That is a difference of $8 Million that would stay in your community, fixing your roads, employing your neighbors, bettering your schools and making your community a better place to live and shop.

the aha moment

After three months of burning up the keys on my laptop searching for every fabulous wedding vendor in a 5 state radius a light bulb went off. Not one of those new led or what-cha-ma call it bulbs that are perfectly energy-efficient and glow a tinted blue hue. A huge, pull with a big long chain, hear it crackle when starts lighting up, honker of a light bulb came on in my head..
